A business trip to Bodø with burger, beers and beats
So, I’ve been to Bodø many times – a lovely city where almost everything is within walking distance. I started my day walking from the airport to the hospital (where I had my business meeting), and later continued on to the city center and my hotel.
Usually I stay at the Grand Bodø Hotel, a cozy place with friendly staff and the big bonus of a free evening meal. The only thing missing is a gym, though they do have a deal with the one across the street.
This time I got a good price at the Clarion Hotel Ramsalt, an oceanfront skyscraper 🌆 with its own gym. I landed an excellent room on the 10th floor – room 1014 – with ocean views in two directions, a proper desk, and a comfy bed.
The view was stunning.
Unfortunately, after getting up early this morning, the bed turned out to be a little too comfy… I fell asleep instead of hitting the gym. Well, tomorrow is another day.
Since there’s no free evening meal here, I went out for a bite. When traveling alone, I like to keep things simple, and a gastropub is the perfect fit. There I can bring my computer, write a little on my next big novel 😉, and enjoy a drink or two with a tasty burger.
I chose the nearby bar Hundholmen Brygghus. They offered several burgers, and I went for the “Høstburger” – the autumn burger 🍔. Delicious! Wild mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and rich sauces made it a winner. Highly recommended. Naturally, I paired it with a Nordlandspils 🍺. I even managed to write a few pages ✍️.
Not the best photo, but trust me - it is the best burger!
Back in the hotel I got to see a Norwegian navy warship, KNM Steil, enter the harbour in a beautiful sunset.
So, what next? Nearby is a venue called Dama di (literally “Your Girlfriend”). I’ve wanted to visit before, but never did. They claim to be open 364 nights a year, and tonight it’s Tuesday Jam – an open stage for anyone to join the band. Don’t worry, I’ll stay in the audience!
See a separate post about Dama di.
Day 2 in Bodø begins with a superb breakfast by the seafront. Ramsalt offers a typical Norwegian hotel buffet that spares nothing. I was a bit shy to walk around and photograph all the food, so I settled on this smoked sausage 🐷 from Eldhus Gård, which I thought was a local product. It turns out that it actually comes from Evanger, about 1,200 km from Bodø. In fact, the sausage had traveled further. than I had 🤣
But still – it’s a local Norwegian product, just not from here 😉.
I took some smoked salmon, pickled herring, eggs, and fried veggies for my breakfast this morning. Feeling a bit guilty that I have not enjoyed any fresh fish during my time here.
Yummy looking sausage.
Since I feasted on a burger last night I decided to go for veggies and fish for breakfast.
